If you save the model documents as templates, in a templates folder, you can put a shortcut to any you want on your desktop and use those shortcuts to create new documents, based on your templates. I would hazard that anyone with that experience would offer the sameĪdvice. It was, though, based on decades of experience with Windows and Word. You may feel that Suzanne's advice that storing important documents on the Desktop is not recommended was not helpful. If you are using Windows 10, you can "pin" folders to the Quick Access area of the save dialog.ĪFAIK, Word has always saved an open document to the current location, by default, when you use Save As. Keep backups, and I'm not talking about Word's automatic backups, but files stored separately just for that purpose. ![]() Otherwise, you are, eventually, going to save changes to an important model that you did not want changed. First, if you save your "model" documents as templates and use those, you will not have this problem.
